Our Adoption Experience...
It took us almost 8 years to get to the point of adoption.
Adoption was always something I (Amanda) wanted to do. It wasn't until our niece was adopted that my husband understood that adoption was an option and that he could love that child as much as our own.
When we started this blog/website we were in the planning phases of adoption. We were promoting our page through Facebook and through family. Our goal was to save money and fundraise so we could adopt in 2014. However, this page was VERY popular and we were contacted by many people asking if we wanted to adopt their children. It was overwhelming and exhilarating. We had one failed adoption and then decided to get back to the grind and planned on saving money.
The next thing we knew we were at appointments with our angel (biological mother). Two weeks flew by and I was holding a beautiful baby girl.
We had been in contact with a local lawyer and had started the court papers, and proceedings. The next thing was to get our home study from the state and set a finalization date. 6months went by and she was officially ours!
Below is a general idea of what our costs were for the adoption:
Lawyer Fees $5000
Adoption Home study (Pre) $2000 -- discounted rate
Adoption Home Study (Post x2) $1000 EACH --- discounted rate
Adoption Application Fee $200
Updating Animal Requirements $800
Miss. Fees & Paperwork $1000
Travel & Misc. (Biological Expenses) $500
Donations from fundraising efforts, friends & family $3500 -- THANK YOU!!!!
